How do you host a recital in the middle of a pandemic and also keep our families and community safe?

At Rock City Dance Center, we never thought we would have to answer this question, but with a little creativity, a lot of heart, and the love and support of our community we were able to create a magical experience!

Through the global pandemic, RCDC created ways for our dancers to finish the dance season and to showcase what they learned.  Dancers had access to a digital library of pre-recorded classes and we danced along with our students in live zoom classes.  During our Magical Recital Experience, each dancer was the star in their own show! Our dancers received their time in the spotlight in a creative way for family and friends, taking into consideration the safety concerns during a pandemic.  Our community of dancers and their families worked together to create a magical recital experience we will never forget.

This socially distant recital is one that will live in our hearts for years to come!

It was our 10th anniversary season and while we never expected it to finish with a global pandemic, we are thankful for all our dance families for making it a wonderful year! On May 28-30, 2020 we were so happy to be able to showcase our dancers in the annual Rock City Dance Center Recital even though it looked and felt a little different.

The goals for our reimagined recital were:

*to give students their moment in the spotlight they have been working hard for all year,

*make a responsible plan that follows state guidance and recommended safety restrictions,

*wrap up our season in a timely manner and finish our season strong!

Our magical recital experience allowed recreational and competitive dancers the opportunity to showcase the results of their hard work, dedication and progress to an audience of family on the front row. This year's recital was a team effort; dancers, parents, staff and the directors were all key players in the show's success.  We are so thankful for everyone who worked together to make this a special event for all our dancers!

What was the 2020 magical recital experience?

Zoom Classes

& Practice

Dancers were able to keep up their training and practice recital choreography through weekly live zoom classes with their teachers!  They could also take bonus classes to supplement their training.

Pro & Behind the Scenes Photos

Through the year we had our staff photographer inside the studio capturing images and memories of our dancers.  Dancers could also get their photo taken in costume at the magical recital!

The STAR of your own Show!

It's show time!  Each dancer was able to showcase what they had learned on our professional stage for an audience of their family on the front row! It was professional recorded and given to each family as a keepsake!

Celebration & Awards

In recognition of the hard work, effort and dedication that went into participating in virtual dance and the magical recital, each dancer was personally presented their year end award by the RCDC Artistic Director.
